Red renaissance gownby DecosaDesign

Red silk renaissance gown- so far this is the most popular style, so here's another view:) I would like to make a version with lots of jewels and beaded gold trim...

Your gowns are lovely! I am a student of historical costume, but I haven't studied this period before. Now I am in a renaissance art class. I am finding your work doubly interesting because of it!

That's very nice of you. I've enjoyed the work in your gallery! I hope to get into American history eras this year, develop some Regency and colonial garments. I think those styles have a very pure look. Do you make your own patterns from scratch?

I often base my patterns off of extant garments (and sometimes scaled patterns from extant garments, such as those in Janet Arnold's patterns of fashion books) but yes, I make my own patterns. I've just started looking into doing some medieval costumes and I'm finding it challenging since there is so much less documentation to work from. The nice thing about 18th and 19th centuries is that there are tons of surviving garments, paintings and texts sources.
